PPD Presentation

I have uploaded my presentation to Issu so that it can easily be viewed and clicked through. A lot of the work featured in the presentation is not my own and I am using it purely for reference.

Please Feature Me

I have spent the morning emailing blogs that might feature my work. In that time I have successfully managed to get my work Tweeted by Paul Buck from Zerofee. Fingers crossed I'll hear back from one of these emails. I wrote custom emails to each blog as they relate to me and my work in different ways and I wanted to be more personal.

I also plan on entering into the It's Nice That graduates competition which is due this friday.

Zerofee Tweeted Me

I have become quite friendly with Paul from Zerofee over the past few months through emails. Sadly I wasn't able to visit their studio when in London and now they have decided to close the studio and run the business from home and other locations.

I have been chatting to him today though and he said that he would be happy to meet up for a coffee and a chat when I am in London for New Blood. He also bought a couple of my Typography Posters and has been kind enough to tweet a link to my website where the posters are available for purchase.

Contact with Adam Robinson

Here are a few recent emails from Adam. We spoke about possibly working together and he's given me a brief to get started with.

Hi Adam,

I am incredibly sorry it's taken me ages to reply. I have had some major deadlines lately and I am just about done with them now. I have had your card on my desk and have been meaning to send you a message everyday but just keep loosing track of time. Thanks for being so welcoming at creative networks by the way. It was a little daunting but really good in the end.

I had a look at your website and it's really good, I was kind of hoping the design of it wouldn't be good so I could offer my services but I like it a lot. haha. If you ever need a graphic designer or even just an eye to look over something please don't hesitate to get in touch. I love working with type and layout so I might be able to bring some new skills to the table. :) Oh and by the way I finished those sustainable prints I was working on last week(the ones with the flowers). They look quite nice, not the boldest of designs but each different print has it's positive and negative points. Have a look http://www.behance.net/gallery/Eco-Print/536673

With regards to the typography poster I would love to get one printed for you asap as it's very cheap facilities at university and I could get you one whilst I am still up in leeds. I could even drive by and drop it off at your studio if you fancy? Which letter and size was it again? A1's are very nice and not a lot dearer but may be too big for what you've got in mind. Anyway, I'm not meaning to pressure you. I look forward to hearing from you.

Cheerio for now.
Jimmy.

Hi jimmy,

Cheers for getting in touch. I real like your stuff so ild be happy to bring you in on some projects in the future. I like the stuff on the blog also.

Yeah the poster would be excellent, an A1 one would be great if you can organise that me? How much would an A1 one cost?

Cheers

Hi Adam,

You are much quicker at the e-mail game than I am. I would be delighted to help you out with anything that you can think of so keep me in mind and let me know if anything comes up please. :)

An A1 would be £15 and yes I can definitely sort that out for you and come and drop it off next week some time if you have the time. Which letter were you after again or was it the full A-Z? I was thinking a + and a - would be good but I bet they would be a bit boring really. The p is quite nice though. Thanks for your speedy reply.

Jimmy.

Yeah well, Iv had a lot of practice, seems like all i do some days is ping emails around!

a full a - z would be good and could we also get an a? Both on A1?

Cheers

----------------------------------------------

Haha I know how you must feel. Yeah I could definitely sort those out for you, I will try and get them printed next week and bring them down for you as soon as possible. I will drop you another e-mail to let you know when it will be ready and arrange a meeting. Sound good?

Cheers

----------------------------------------------

Yup thats great, cheers Jimmy see you again soon. Actually I have an idea....

Continued....

Have a look over this quickly...(He then phoned me and asked me to look over some designs for a client of his and see if I can put a log and business card together for him. I can't say much about it but it sounds like it should be a good opportunity. I will post more details as soon as possible.

Website Update & Behance

I have just finished quite a lot of brief and put them up on my website, I haven't put everything up but I have with most of the bigger length projects. I have been thinking of what I can do with my home page and came up with a few ideas.

I wanted to have an image similar to below but a much closer framing of the jimmy logo with the different photograph through each logo. Every time the page would load a different version would randomly generate. I took all of the photos manually on a holga camera with a lasercut stencil in front of the negative to create this manual manipulation. Sadly the images didn't come out as vividly as I had hoped so I decided to use this as a front page image for now however I may change it to something else quite soon.

I plan to make every effort to promote myself using the internet as it is fast, convenient and easy, not to mention more sustainable than printed media. I have heard a lot about Behance and decided to create an account a while ago but I hadn't got round to adding any projects that I thought would do me justice. I have recently completed and photographed a few projects which I felt would promote me and my practice well on Behance. They've only been on here a few hours and already a few people have given me the 'thumbs up'. I plan to keep networking through this site as it has become much more popular recently and often features new talent. Fingers crossed.
